PIGLET'S STORY

Piglet the deaf, blind, pink puppy is a double-dapple Dachshund- Chihuahua mix, and was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation with 37 other dogs.

“Dapple” refers to the marbling pattern seen in Dachshunds. Breeding two dapple parents results in a 25% chance of each pup being “double dapple”. The problem with this is, double dapple breeding results in varying congenital ear and eye defects which can cause partial to full blindness and/or deafness. Piglet, for example, is both deaf and blind.

Double dapple pups are the result of misinformed, ill-informed and/or irresponsible breeding practices and can be completely prevented. Piglet is an animal advocate, raising awareness about the consequences of double dapple breeding, and the importance of spay and neuter. He also encourages adoption of special needs pets.

Piglet and his dog pack of 6 rescues was the inspiration behind the Piglet Mindset Educational Outreach program, which in turn inspires children (and adults) to face challenges with a positive attitude, and exercise acceptance, inclusion and kindness.
